Here in the David’s Dog Deli bakery all our handmade biscuits are vegan, hypoallergenic, grain-free and gluten-free. We handmake all our treats in small batches so we can be in full control of what ingredients are used.

All treats and packaging we produce are designed by us and is totally unique to David’s Dog Deli. We are proud of every product we make from taste and nutrition to design. We never repackage factory made treats and call them our own.

Our dog treats are vet approved and are even used at Vets for Pets Newcastle in their Senior Dogs Clinic.

Although we are a small business (the two Davids) we operate on a national scale sending tasty nutrition all over the UK.

We’re fully approved by Trading Standards, our dog treat registration number is GB41700067. When buying treats for your dog we’d always recommend purchasing from a company that clearly displays this to ensure all regulations and safe practices are being adhered to. This registration number confirms that Trading Standards have approved the manufacturer and has inspected the manufacturing premises for hygiene and ingredient safety.

Preservative-Free Natural Goodness

We never use food colourings or flavourings. We believe that natural and nutritional ingredients already possess enough flavour and colours without needing to fake it. There’s no benefit of food being bright blue!

We NEVER use any chemical preservatives to increase the shelf life of our products. It’s a long, slow process, but by putting our biscuits through a dehydrator (fan assisted low and slow heat) we remove enough moisture to keep our biscuits in the best condition possible. If you remove unnecessary moisture, it prevents bacteria growth and spoiling. Chemical preservatives can be detrimental to a dog’s overall health by potentially causing cancer and allergic reactions.

Our Nutritional Ingredients

We start with a base of gram flour in all our bakes which means they’re packed with the natural goodness of chickpeas. Using this technique, not only means that our biscuits have the qualities listed above but we can also avoid using eggs as a binder which can be detrimental to dogs’ health. Gram flour is naturally high in protein and fibre which is great for their overall body health and means that we use absolutely no fillers that just add weight to our biscuits without any nutritional benefits.

Peanut Butter & Coconut Oil Are Natural Fats

All the peanut butter we use is made from 100% peanuts so no palm oil which can cause a whole host of health issues for dogs. These issues could range from pancreatitis (pancreas inflammation) to tummy problems (tummy bloating, pain and being sick). If peanut butter isn’t used, the only other fat we will use is coconut oil which has lots of health benefits like a healthy coat and skin and can promote eye and ear health.

If a company doesn’t display the DEFRA registration but uses animal derived products, this could mean that the products are being manufactured in a way that is not safe for a dog.

David’s Dog Deli do not use any animal derived products due to us wanting to omit high allergen foods. We want our biscuits to be enjoyed by as many dogs as possible which means keeping our ingredients allergy friendly.

DEFRA Registration If Using Any Animal Products

If purchasing any dog treats or food from a company that uses animal derived products like meat, eggs, milk or even honey, they MUST display a DEFRA registration. The DEFRA registration tells you that animal products are being used in a safe and appropriate manor.

If a company doesn’t display the DEFRA registration but uses animal derived products, this could mean that the products are being manufactured in a way that is not safe for a dog.
