Our Story

Why We Do This
On 9th September 2018 we lost our beautiful, joyful and kindhearted boy Sonny in a car accident (which you can read more about in this article from the Newcastle Chronicle). This horrible life-changing event made both of us (both David) think "well what next?"
We know how important and loved our special doggy friends are to those who have decided to look after them and, like us, everyone wants the best for them so we decided to make the best for the best.
We started learning about dog nutrition and quickly realised how much rubbish was in your average dog treat, how little nutrition was in them and how boring they were so we decided to change this.

In 2019 we were searching for a rescue so we could make another dog happy and help one that may be in need so on 24th November 2019 we took home Trooper, a 10 year old Bichon Frise (amongst other breeds mixed in) from The Dogs Trust in Darlington. Trooper had rotting teeth and eye and ear problems.
After taking him to the vets to have his teeth cleaned, they decided they were so bad that all but 4 had to be removed.
Thinking about all his health issues, allergies and age, this reinforced our belief that food and treat ingredients could make a massive difference so we continue to look for nutritious and tasty ingredients to put our unique spin on.
Troops is now 15 and living his best life.

Get to Know Us
David's Dog Deli is a very small team of two, David Matheson (left) and David Wilson (right).
David Wilson started in our kitchen selling on online platforms and at the beautiful and dog friendly Tynemouth Market on a Sunday (which David M still attends). Shortly after our launch we were approached by local dog-friendly shops who asked if we could supply them, and soon we outgrew our production kitchen and opened our first shop and bakery at 46 Forest Hall Road NE12 9AL.
One of our favourite things is meeting the doggies and the kind people who have chosen to love them. We also LOVE when people share pictures of their doggy friends enjoying what we have made them on Instagram and tag us in. If you have any questions or suggestions, please get in touch.
